65 Years old: (And still full time employed)
When my father died as a veteran, I accepted money from the government for less than 2 years (College support of about $123 per month)
When I was in the US Navy for 6 years (age 19-25) I accepted a Government salary.
When unemployed for about 2 months – I accepted unemployment payments.
When employed full time by Columbia Basin College and San Jose State University, I accepted a salary partially paid through SBA Grant Funds and State funds through the schools.
And now (for 15 years) as a full time Professor with a State University – I’m taking a salary – but the University design is entirely based on tuition – not state funding.
Yes – our Federal and State governments have programs to help take care of those who have a need – but why would anyone live entirely on government funding – it is other people’s money paid in taxes! (Respect should be given to those who pay for you!)
I’ve paid taxes for over 45 years.
I don’t get money for housing, food, phone, utilities, and not even Social Security (Yet). I don’t get government money for disability, medicare (yet), or education (no bail out – as I paid off my school loans, ie. Debt I signed for!)
And now we have a person running for presidency of the largest economic country on earth – and wants to give more money away to those who are not working. Why? Why does not working mean people deserve more and more money?
Yes there are people who have needs – but when over 100 million people take other’s money – where is the respect? Is it not criminal to take without remorse and no intentions of paying it back?
What is fair? – Or, has the United States turned into a Socialist Society -and maybe I need to consider going somewhere else?
