But is this the right way to stop immigration? Wouldn’t it be easier to say – a person must live in the United States for a minimum of 3 years before they can receive Government Benefits?
Perspective: The total population of Honduras, (10 million), Guatemala (18 million), and El Salvador (6.5 million) (all estimated of course)
Average annual per capita income: Honduras $2,200, Guatemala $4,500, and El Salvador $3,650.
Lest we forget – the US Govt gave US Citizens over $3,200 per person for those making under $80,000 per year, and those not working received an extra $2,400 per month above their regular unemployment benefits.
Let’s ask the 35 million people in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador – do they want to stay in Central America and have the ability to get internet access and credit to buy things – or come to the US and get monthly what they make annually in their home country.
Ok – sure this exaggerates would will be made in the US – but for not working you can make more than working in their home countries.
This is why people want to enter the US. Opportunity for work and opportunity for more money to not work. Not to mention free education and health services.
There are legal ways to enter the US and have access to opportunity. But should people who come to the US automatically receive government benefits – paid by taxes taken from the hard working Americans?
Why doesn’t the US just BUY the Central American Countries – and be done with the game. If they become US Citizens – then they have the same rights and won’t need to break laws. AND – their economies will grow much faster if part of the United States.
This would solve many problems (yes cause many more too – but the long term solution would be provided)
