I would venture that less than 1% of US Citizens look at available data – before they make comments about politics, or political driven programs.
So lets take a look!
As of Feb 2021 there are 64,857,000 US citizens receiving Social Security (or Supplemental Security) benefits from the US Government (Oh and did you know that you can be a citizen of a foreign country and still receive benefits!) https://www.ssa.gov/international/countrylist1.htm
The average monthly payments are $1,425.49 (Over $92,453,000,000 per month) https://www.ssa.gov/…/quick…/stat_snapshot/index.html…
A little perspective: Of the 190 Countries on the planet that operate within global economics. – The $92,453,000,000 (That is Billion) – is more than the Annual GDP of 135 countries. Note for those who forgot their economics – Gross domestic product (GDP) is the total monetary or market value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country’s borders in a specific time period.
So the Monthly amount the US Government provides to citizens is more than the entire annual GDP of 135 countries. If you take the annual amount (x12) = $1,109,436,059,160 (Or $1.1 Trillion) – This makes the amount of Government Social Security equal to the GDP for more than 185 Countries (Just below Mexico at $1.15 Trillion) Let’s revisit this – The US gives $1.109 Trillion annually for Social Security – while 185 Countries don’t produce this much value working?
Is it any wonder people are clamoring to get into the US and become a US citizen!! I guess we really are a “Social Democracy” and if you add in Unemployment, Disability, SNAP and other programs – a majority of US Citizens are receiving some form of payment from the Government.
There is no wonder why people are voting for a Socialist Democracy – they want to keep their money coming – and if possible have it go up!! Keep feeding the machine and eventually there won’t be any food left. Then what happens?
