Don’t you just love the accuracy of reporting today?
Article from Yahoo (which owns Huffington Post) – on stimulus checks – reporting that “Around 158.5 million households are expected to receive a payment.” Wouldn’t that be nice – considering there is only 129 million “households” in the US.
And, there was a note on “who doesn’t get a check” – that included: Those without a Social Security number and nonresident aliens — those who aren’t U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals and don’t have a green card or have not passed the substantial presence test — are not eligible for the direct payment”
So – what is “Substantial Presence Test” – if someone shows up to an IRS office and says – I”m here! – do they get a check?
Yes – I’m sour! Because I don’t get checks. And the reason – I’m married and file as married household. Seems like a marriage penalty? – If I just lived with someone making lots of money – I’d still get a check. You might say – But you get “Married Filing Jointly Deductions” – Well you better check that thought – As a single person you get $12,400 – and Married filing jointly you get $24,800 – (That is the same!) And, by filing together we have a higher tax bracket – than we would have filing separately. So – being married in the US is a penalty.
But that still doesn’t create 158 million households! (I wonder if we are paying Foreign households??)https://www.yahoo.com/…/stimulus-checks-more-payments…
